Nepal Protests Over Social Media Ban, PM KP Sharma Oli Resigns

Big demonstrations have started all over Nepal after the government made a debated choice to stop people from using big social media sites such as Facebook, WhatsApp, X (Twitter), and YouTube. The Nepal Parliament said it was okay to do this, saying it was to stop false information, but many people thought it was a clear strike against the ability to speak freely and online freedom.

Lots of young people went out to protest in what is now being called the “Gen Z Revolution.” Angry fights between the police and the people protesting led to at least 19 people dying and hundreds getting hurt. News companies like AajTak Live and Mint talked about the problems a lot, and the world started paying attention to what is happening in Nepal.

📍Widespread youth-led protests force government to reverse social media ban; political crisis deepens.

Because the people and politicians were putting so much stress on him, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli quit his job. His quitting is a big change in Nepal’s political situation. The World Health Organization (WHO) and other people watching from around the world have said the violence is bad and asked for peace.

Now that people can use social media again, countries close by like India are keeping a close eye on what is going on. The protests show that people really want things to be clear, for people to be responsible, and to have freedom online.
